AI, Intellectual Property, and a 2-Minute Pitch

Yesterday, VDiQ IP Services participated in the B2B Pitch organised by Næringsforeningen i Stavanger, where founder and CEO Steven van Dijk presented a two-minute pitch on one of the most rapidly developing topics currently affecting the intellectual property world: artificial intelligence.

The format of the event was both challenging and refreshing. With only two minutes available, the focus was placed not on presenting a traditional overview of the firm, but rather on highlighting some of the important legal and professional questions businesses increasingly face when using AI technologies.

Using an AI-generated visual as a starting point, the presentation raised questions such as:

  • Can AI-generated creations be protected by intellectual property rights?
  • If so, who owns those rights?
  • Could using AI-generated material infringe the rights of others?
  • What are the implications for confidentiality, privilege, and responsible use of AI?

These are no longer merely theoretical questions. Businesses are already integrating AI tools into innovation processes, product development, marketing, software development, and daily operations. At the same time, the legal and regulatory landscape surrounding AI continues to evolve rapidly.

One of the central messages of the presentation was that the discussion surrounding AI is not solely about technology. It is equally about judgment, responsibility, and understanding the legal framework within which businesses operate.

From an intellectual property perspective, AI is creating significant new opportunities for innovation while simultaneously challenging established legal concepts relating to authorship, ownership, confidentiality, and professional responsibility.

VDiQ IP Services would like to thank Næringsforeningen i Stavanger for organising an excellent event and for creating a valuable networking arena for professionals and businesses in the Stavanger region.
